MacTavish

Welcome to the home of MacTavish Dundee Mor. I have developed a number of nicknames - Mac, chewboy, weasle, "the terror", kissey boy, loud mouth, barkey boy and others. What??? I love to chew on ANYTHING, chase the cats and Alex (hey, they chase me too), give kisses, kisses & kisses and love to play.

On July 5th I was two years old. The weekend had lots of extra attention since we also had Ted to pay attention to us. I'm trying to show everyone that I am getting "better". I'm calmer and do "try" listen better. Well, most of the time. I'm still cute as can be and just everyone loves me! I still stay in the playpen when mom isn't home. It is my "crate". Mom had to buy me a new one a couple weeks ago because Alexander ate his way out one day when mom put us both in there. Mom was not too happy with him for a change.

Here is my Christmas picture taken with Santa in December 2009. I was a good boy once again for the photos!

My History

I was born on July 5, 2007 at PPF Farms Kennel in Punxsutawney, PA. My new mommy learned I was here and healthy on July 9th. My Cairn mom is a 2-1/2 year old light brindle Cairn (who is more red as she aged) and my dad is a 2 year old light wheaten Cairn. The breeder lady Bobbi Jo kept my mom "in the loop" as to all that goes on with me and sent pictures of my parents so that we might know what I will look like when I grow up. Mom waited three weeks on pins and needles waiting to see if I would be born. There were two males in the litter and I will be the one that Alexander choses. When we pups were 2-3 weeks she sent mom my first pictures. While I continue to grow the nice lady will continue to send mom updated pictures until I am ready to go home some time mid-September. There were three in my litter - us to boys and a sister. Now that Alexander and mom have picked me my brother goes to the nice lady in New York next month when it is time. I got my name as of August 6th when my brother Alexander picked me out - and I picked out my mom! Mom said a number of names when she was holding me, and when she called me MacTavish I started licking her neck and chin - so that's my name.

I came home yesterday, September 7th with my new mommy. I liked the car ride home as long as there was music playing on the radio. Every time they got to "talk" I would get fussy, so mom would sing - that put me right to sleep! When we got to grandma & grandpa's house Alexander was there to greet me. Gave me a big "hurrumph" to let me know he was in charge and then we were fine. Got to run around the backyard at home for about 10 minutes with Alexander. I would run under him, he'd roll over and then I would jump on him. He'd flip me and we would start all over.

I spent my first night in my playpen. Mom has a kids soft playpen and then plexiglass "bumpers" that are 15" high which guards the sides of the playpen from me! The bottom has waterproof crib pad on it so that mom dosn't have to worry about any accidents. I have some paper in the corner (which I would rather rip up than pee on) and on the opposite end is a fleece bed roll, dry food and water. Plus, of course there are the toys!

My pedigree has arrived. I was registed as a brindle with black mask at birth. My Cairn mom was registered as a wheaten with black points and turned out a beautiful crean/red Cairn and dad was registered a black brindle with black marings and turned out a light wheaten with black mask. Will be interesting to see how I come out in the end. If you look at my pictures you will see that I'm getting a bit of red in me as I get older. All Cairns seem to have the same colors at birth, some more dominant and they change as we get older. I understand that Angus was my color when he was a baby and turned out a champage color light wheaten in the end.

My nicknames have started out as Mac and Tavi, and now mom has added "devil dog" and "chew boy" already. I have totally demolished about four stuffed animal toys so far, and I LOVE to chew and tear up paper. That means no newspaper area for me - I tear it to pieces! I am good in my playpen though and behave well in there.

My ears are finally staning up. My color is changing daily. The black is fading, the red is lightening up and the wheaten is starting to show. No idea what I will be!

The week of Thanksgiving 2007 I got to meet Uncle Rob and Aunt Terri when they came to stay with us for the holiday. Uncle Rob even took me for a long walk - he was amazed that I could keep up for so long. I'm a very strong little guy!

I graduated from North Coast Dog's "Family Dog" obedience program in March. I learned sit, down, puppy push-ups, wait, go, stay (well sort of), drop it, leave it, look at me, loose leash walking and am still working on coming when mom calls me. I'm FINALLY walking with a loose leash for everyone and man can I do great sit and lay downs!

I love the snow, I mean I LOVE the snow!! The deeper the better. I eat it, dig in it, and then roll in it and do snowangels. It is just fantastic. I have a green barn coat and now have a green sweater also. The first time mom put me in my new green sweater I immediately rolled around in the snow and it looked white.

I was "fixed" in February 2008 - did fine. There is no slowing me down!! Then I started "Family Dog" obedience classes. I kind of like that - if you do something right you hear a "click" and then there is treats. I love treats! I've learned just about everything so far - EXCEPT - for come. I figure mom may be wants me to go in the playpen or something - not to trusting about coming to her just yet.

July 2008 I turned one and spent the time at Misty Glen Kennel since mom, grandma & grandpa were all in Indiana for cousin Bryan & Rosie's wedding. I tore my big pillow apart so the lady at the kennel thought I was stressed so she moved Alexander & I to the main house with them for the weekend. Little did she know I wasn't stressed, just loved to tear apart pillows. Hey, we got a "free upgrade" because of it and special treatment.

July 2009 I turned two and this time mom was home with me. Of course we went out for the ice cream cone - which I ate so fast I really didn't know I had one! I'm behaving better, but known to take apart mom's phone covers - and even one phone for the most part. She wasn't too happy with me - why??
